As a science communicator, it’s my goal to make scientific research and natural resource issues more accessible to the people they affect.

Some of my favorites

  • Montana Researcher Reflects on 30 Years of Wolves in Yellowstone

This story explores the critical role wolves play in Yellowstone National Park's ecosystem, highlighting the research efforts of the Yellowstone Wolf Project and the University of Montana. The story received broad attention, with placements in regional media outlets and national exposure through MSN News.

  • Made by a Griz for Grizzlies: How a UM alum invented bear spray

This story profiles Carrie Hunt who invented bear spray in the 1980’s as a grad student at the University of Montana. While the life-saving deterrent is now a staple for outdoor enthusiasts, Hunt’s story has largely gone untold. The profile was front page of the Missoulian in October 2025.

  • Letting the dead go green

Multimedia Storytelling

  • Your Friend, Wildfire

This children’s book was developed as my final capstone project at the University of Montana. In it, Griz and Koala write letters to each other in which they discuss the different ways that fire has shaped their respective landscapes. It was awarded one of the best presentations at the University of Montana Conference for Undergraduate Research.

  • Tiny Birds, Big Warnings: Songbirds Reveal Secrets of Long-term Mining Impacts

By tracking heavy metal contaminants in songbird nestlings, UM grad student research sheds light on ecosystem recovery and guides future conservation efforts. I worked closely with a photographer and videographer to craft this multimedia story.

  • Field Note from the 2024 Bitterroot Wildlife Internship

This multimedia narrative documents student research and volunteer efforts at the 2024 Bitterroot Wildlife Internship. I served as an instructor for MPG Ranch’s summer internship where I taught research design and local ecology. I developed this field note for the ranch to deliver to stakeholders that support the internship.
